The Danish government proposed on last 28 March a series of initiatives which will make it easier for workers of the new Member States to enter Denmark. Total liberalization is envisaged before 2009. (Ref. 06368)

Since 1 June 2004, Denmark granted approximately 8000 residence and work permits to nationals of the new Member States. Fears of massive arrivals of badly paid workers and (without Social Security cover) did not materialize.
