Following the governmental meeting on Europe of 13 March 2006, the Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin announced that "French authorities will proceed to a progressive and controlled lifting of restrictions on the free-circulation of workers of eight EU countries" of central and Eastern Europe. “The lifting of these restrictions will primarily concern certain trades affected by labor shortages”, specified the Prime Minister “The methods for lifting these restrictions will be discussed with social partners”, highlighted Dominique de Villepin. Almost all French trade-union organizations favour the immediate lifting of the transitional measures which have blocked, since May 2004, the free movement of Czechs, Poles, Estonians, Latvians, Lithuanians, Slovenians, Slovaks and Hungarians.
