The European Pay Transparency Directive must be transposed into German law by 7 June 2026 at the latest. However, the draft bill promised for January 2026 has still not seen the light of day. Under these circumstances, timely implementation appears increasingly uncertain, as industry experts note a significant lack of readiness coupled with a central fear of back-pay adjustments.
The highly anticipated draft bill for the transposition of the European Pay Transparency Directive is still pending. Like other EU countries, Germany is required to transpose the directive by 7 June 2026. However, to date, only a commission of experts has submitted its recommendations on the subject, on 7 November 2025.
