Italy’s Parliament has converted the 01 May ‘Labour Decree’ into law. Amendments introduced during the parliamentary debate include in particular the refinancing of a number of measures designed to facilitate generational renewal and the requalification of employees, as well as a further extension of the right to smart working for certain categories of workers. The Labour Law also relaxes standards on the renewal of fixed-term contracts, bolsters workers' purchasing power, and simplifies procedures on transparent working conditions.
Law 85 of 03 July 2023, is the final version of the decree-law of 01 May, and brings about a series of changes to the labour legislation without fundamentally changing existing standards.
Generational renewal and requalification/reskilling of employees
The law refinances two previously successful measures. Thus an additional €20 million will be made available for ‘expansion contracts,’ company agreements that facilitate generational renewal by combining early retirement programmes, retraining for employees who remain in the company, and the hiring of young people.
