The news. The new legislation extending opening hours for the retail sector entered into force on 19 June 2026. The law, which was introduced by the government in October 2024, allows retail stores to open one hour earlier from Monday to Friday—from 5:00 a.m. instead of 6:00 a.m.—and to close one hour later, at 9:00 p.m. instead of 8:00 p.m. Stores may also remain open from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sundays, the day before a public holiday, and on public holidays.
