The Spanish Ministry of Labour has opened a consultation on the transposition of the European directive on salary transparency and the reduction of the gender pay gap. This decision follows a request from trade unions, who are calling for the text to be strengthened and extended to small businesses.

The government is going to revisit its approach to combating pay inequality. The unions rejected the first version of the draft decree presented in July, considering that the text did not sufficiently meet the requirements of the 2023 European directive. The Ministry of Labour has committed to presenting a new version by the end of September, running more than three months late on the transposition deadline set for June 7 by the European Commission.
