The Spanish subsidiary of MSD, a global healthcare leader known as Merck & Co., Inc. in the United States and Canada, enacted the “Internship Talent Program” in 2011 as part of its talent management policies. The principle aim of the program is to identify and retain young talent that will one day hold senior leadership positions at MSD. Today, two years after its implementation, some of the participants are already holding posts such as marketing manager. (Ref. 130361)
The “Internship Talent Program” was conceived at the end of 2010 as a strategy to proactively find and attract young talent. The first 20 participants commenced the program in 2011. On average, 15 new young people take part in it each year. Typically, 65% of them are women, and 35% are men. The company looks specifically for young people who have a university degree in any discipline (or a post-graduate degree from a reputable business school), who have little professional experience, who share the firm’s values, and who aspire to make a career at MSD.
