The number of workers 50 years old or more increased by 60 % in ten years. With 1,6 million workers, this age bracket now amounts to a quarter of the working population (23 %), compared to 16 % in 1996. These figures testify to the ageing of the population, indicated yesterday the office of statistics CBS (Centraal Bureau voor of Statistiek) by publishing this data, specifying that in ten years the number of Netherlanders between 50 and 74 years old increased by a fifth. The progression was strongest for the age bracket 55-59, with 55 % of these still active today, compared to 40 % in 1996. The phenomenon also affects women.
