Portugal: UGT confederation calls for enforcement of the growth and employment chapter of the social dialogue agreement of January 2012

Social dialogue.  The UGT, the only union that signed the social dialogue agreement of January 18, 2012 (see our dispatch No.  120039), is denouncing the delay in the application of the agreement which, in addition to the labor law reform currently being discussed by Parliament (see our dispatch No.  120081), contained commitments on growth and the development of employment.  “The government is lacking skill to apply the agreement’s measures.  The UGT doesn’t want to believe in a deliberate will to prevent the introduction of the strategy to revive the economy and maintain employment.  The government needs to improve social dialogue” João Proença, leader of the union confederation, told the international press.
