Spain : building workers in Barcelona on strike to denounce frequent industrial accidents in the sector

Building sites at the airport, high-speed train services, the justice precinct, underground transport, the exhibition centre and the diagonal avenue extension were paralyzed all day.  27 workers have died in Catalonia since the beginning of the year. However, instead of organising a mass demonstration, the unions opted for picket lines on the building sites in order to inform workers. They demand the respect of the risk prevention legislation in force over the last 10 years, which is not, they claim, sufficiently respected by the employers. They denounce the abuse of subcontracting and the practice of “workforce loans” between companies.
