Sweden: disparate claims from unions face a united employers’ front

Unions, presented separate demands from what is a fractured front, on the day before the start of negotiations. The two principal groups “Facken inom industri” (Union of industrial trade unions) and “6F” (6 trade union cooperation) are in disagreement over levels of salary rises to the extent of losing credibility. However, the employers’ bodies’ demands are well coordinated and will be more difficult to challenge.

Disparate salary claims risk weakening the union position. Both main union negotiation groups presented their demands separately and even if they both converge over the main principles they differ in terms of the level of wage rises they are claiming.
