Sweden: launch of the mandatory certification, “working environment in construction firms”

Wages increases following manufacturing.  What is special with the construction agreement is that it was signed for 35 months – April 1, 2010-February 28, 2013.  This year’s agreement (March 1, 2012-Februrary 28, 2013) only brings pay supplements and details as regards job categories.  With this agreement, Byggnads members are becoming the best-paid group within the LO Confederation.  “We hope the construction industry will manage to follow the industry’s exportation costs.  We worry about costs rising in view of international competition” regretted Mats Åkerlind, in charge of negotiations at Byggindustrier.  Finally, the parties agreed on changes to make to the list of trades covered by the agreements – this year scaffolders (ställningsbyggare) and ceiling fitters (undertaksmontörer).  “Now that there is an agreement on the wage system for these trades, the conditions are all there for their salary to grow” rejoiced Torbjörn Johansson, in charge of agreements for Byggnads.
