Volkswagen: IG Metall okays the continuation of negotiations

On September 11th, 2006, IG Metall's tariff commission approved the opening of negotiations with VW management. Last Friday, in Hanover, management had submitted a concrete plan to guarantee employment. IG Metall could accept more working hours under certain conditions. (Ref. 06876)

IG Metall has agreed to open official negotiations with VW management. The next meeting will take place on September 18, 2006. « We made a step forward: Volkswagen seems ready to take firm and lasting commitments as regards investments in products and equipment for the six German production sites. Each party also acknowledges that job security and the assertion of competitiveness are objectives of identical value », said Friday Hartmut Meine, chief negotiator of IG Metall.
