The European Transport Federation (ETF) expresses its deep concern the entry into force of the new Regulation on driving and rest time for professional drivers (561/2006), running as from yesterday, April 11th 2007. Its asks the European Commission to issue a Memorandum of understanding to make sure that this regulation is properly applied in all the Member States. (Ref. 070329)
Regulation 561/2006/EC of 15 March 2006 amended the rules on driving and rest periods for professional drivers with the scope of introducing more frequent rest periods, reducing exemptions and improving checking and penalty measures.According to the European Federation, “some provisions to date unclear may trigger interpretation difficulties, thus thwarting implementation and enforcement of the Regulation across the member states” :
