Fiat/Chrysler: new meeting of the international union network

Success in the US.  The impact of the restructuring procedures, especially on heavy vehicles (Fiat Industrial, 53,000 workers) was subject to a heated debate between the different unions.  However, about all subjects, it appears that situations and assessments greatly vary between European organizations and the American union (UAW).  The latter presented a positive, optimistic evaluation as new jobs were created, unionization went up and the fear that Chrysler plants were going to close, a threat that arose three years ago, vanished.  Chrysler’s UAW representative said this comes from President Obama’s strong commitment to save the company and from the concessions made by the workers and the UAW in the 2009 collective agreement.
