France: reform of the Department of Employment

New role supporting the implementation of rights at work.  From now on the General Management of Work (DGT), which replaced ‘work relationship management’, “prepares, encourages and co-ordinates employment policies in order to improve individual and collective relationships and working conditions in business, as well as the quality and the efficacy of the laws regulating them”. The old ‘regulator’ must now supervise the effectiveness of its elaboration and monitor its implementation. This new role will take form mainly through the creation of a sub-department entirely dedicated to “ activity on the ground stemming from the policy and action on work inspections”. Another big novelty introduced by the reform and in line with what has already been said: The DGT will have a closer relationship with the labour inspectorate.  As the text states “(the DGT) guarantees the support and assistance of these services in the carrying out of its work”.
