France: smoking ban in all firms as from February 1st, 2007

Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin announced, on October 8th, the publication of a decree banning smoking in firms as from February 1st, 2007. Coffee shops, restaurants, bars, tobacconists and nightclubs will have one extra year to apply the law. (Ref. 061014)

Tobacco will be forbidden in companies from the beginning on 2007, announced the Prime Minister on October 8th. This announcement follows the delivery, on October 3rd, of a report by the information mission of the National Assembly on tobacco bans in public places. The mission concluded that it was urgent to ban smoking by legal means.
