The Federal government was unusually honest when explaining why it asked the Federal Employment Agency (Bundesagentur für Arbeit - BA) to create the new online “Migration Check” service: “Currently, there are about one million vacant jobs in Germany. If we don’t do anything, by 2025, there will be about 6.7 million people of working age on the labor market. Only about 50% of the need for skilled workers can be covered by people already living in Germany. Therefore, it is extremely important for us to facilitate immigration for foreign skilled workers.”
