Great Britain: unions take on the small screen

Who really knows what the million of British union members do? To be able to stop asking that question, Unite and the cable television channel Red TV will begin to broadcast a weekly program for and about trade unions. (Ref. 080376)

On May 3, Red TV’s audience discovered the first episode of “Union TV”. The show featured studio discussion on topical trade union issues and video packages showing trade unions at work. Episode one featured a discussion about Northern Rock, an interview with Derek Simpson, Unite general secretary, about agency and temporary workers and a feature on pension schemes and the strike at the Grangemouth refinery, Scotland. Richard O’ Brien, Unite Director of Communication, was very happy about this
