Ireland: the government is evaluating the situation on the implementation of the social partnership agreement

The Labour Minister, Michael Martin, reported the advancement of the measures taken to implement the agreement concluded with the social partners, "Towards 2016" in September 2006 (see our story n° 06855.). He declared that from the supervision of temp work agencies to the setting of a specific appeal against unjustified mass layoffs, the writing and consultation processes are on the high road. The last edition of the social Pact for growth and employment, called “Towards 2016,” signed by the government and the social partners in September 2006, especially stresses the assertion and the respect of rights at work. A few months after it was adopted, the Labour Minister, Michael Martin, evaluated the situation on the most advanced cases:

  • The upcoming opening of regional offices for the labor inspection (Dublin, Cork Shannon and Sligo) and the coming recruitment of 60 new work inspectors
