Ireland: transposition of the “asbestos” directive

Mr. Tony Killeen, Minister for Labour Affairs, signed on 25 July 2006 the Safety, Health and Well-being at work (Exposure to Asbestos) Regulations 2006 which transpose in Irish legislation the directive 2003/18. The Regulations are effective immediately. (Ref. 06780)

These Regulations transpose Directive 2003/18/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 March 2003, amending Council Directive 83/477/EC, as previously amended by Council Directive 91/382/EC on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to asbestos at work. The Regulations apply to all work activities which expose workers to risks arising from the inhalation of dust from asbestos or materials containing asbestos.
