Italy: Council of Ministers approves the decree transposing the European directive on temporary work

A ‘new face’ for Italian temporary work agencies – this is how the Council of Ministers qualified the impact the decree on temporary work transposing the 2008 Community Directive (see our dispatch No.  080986) will have.  The government says this decree provides the labor market with “tools that can guarantee transparency and efficiency, encouraging jobseekers’ integration and reintegration and increasing workers’ protection.”  Labor Minister Elsa Fornero said, “It improves agency workers’ condition and introduces a clearer, more exhaustive panel of sanctions.”  She added that, in times of crisis, temporary work agencies will be able to have “major efficiency” in their active role of “promoting employment prospects” particularly for “underprivileged” workers or social damper recipients.
