On May 21, Lafarge Group, the international manufacturing union, IndustriAll, and the Building and Wood Workers’ International (BWI) signed, in presence of the ILO Director General Guy Ryder, their new global framework agreement on CSR and international industrial relations. In 2005, the same parties had signed a first agreement on the subject. The new text improves commitments in terms of union rights and the new text improves commitments in terms of union rights and compliance with fundamental social rights by suppliers and subcontractors. The joint press release published by IndustriAll and BWI points out, “The new redaction has a substantially improved language regarding respect by the company of the core International Labor Organization Conventions 87 and 98 on freedom of association and collective bargaining, settlement of disputes as well as application of the agreement across the company’s subsidiaries and supplier chain.
