Spain: draft law on gender equality triggers controversy

Trade union representatives and employers are arguing over the bill on gender equality, approved on June 23 by the Council of Ministers (see our article n° 06656) which should also prove very controversial at the Parliament next autumn. (Réf. 06694)

During a debate organized by the Alares foundation, on the topic of conciliation of equality and socio-economic competitiveness, the person in charge of social affairs at the employers’ organization CEOE, Pilar Iglesias, criticized the fact that the future law “obliges” companies with more than 250 workers to negotiate gender equality plans with the trade-union representatives.
