Talks on flexible working time and the management of overtime in Austria have been going on for over a year (see our dispatches No. 091007 and 100291) and have already greatly tainted the social atmosphere. They may very well inflame collective negotiations in the metal industry, unless, once again, the social partners decide to postpone the regulation.
ocrat Minister for Social Affairs, Rudolf Huntsdorfer, supports unions’ proposal, his conservative colleague for Economic Affairs, Reinhold Mitterlehne, doesn’t follow and supports employers’ propositions. These include the introduction of more flexible personnel management, notably by allowing businesses to manage overtime over one to two years. (Ref. 100604)
