The draft law that aims to reform the labor code ,which dates back to the era of General Pinochet, will be presented to parliament at the beginning of March 2015. The text that will end the symbolic anti-strike law of 1979 was welcomed by the Chile’s largest labor organization the CUT. However the draft law has also received much criticism.
Chile’s socialist President Michelle Bachelet recently unveiled a law that puts an end to the archaic labor code dating back to the Pinochet dictatorship era (1973-1990). The President declared, “The text looks to pay the debt Chile owes to its workers.” The law will be put to parliamentary debate on March 02, 2015. In it is the end of the ability for companies to replace staff out on strike.
