The annual congress of the TUC (over 6 million members) was held between September 13th and September 16th in Manchester.  First interunion meeting since the Labor Party left the government, the Congress focused on the savings measures planned by the government for the next four years, the £83bn budget cuts that threaten thousands of jobs in the public sector.  Unions have incessantly blamed a program of destruction of the Welfare state worthy of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
