Italy: CGIL and Fiom stay mobilized under the “Pomigliano effect”

The “summer cocktail” made up of the economic crisis, the government’s maneuver and the separate agreement on the future of Fiat’s Pomigliano d’Arco factory (see our dispatch No. 100480) is “boosting” the CGIL’s mobilization. Even though people are going on vacation and a scorching hot day, tens of thousands of demonstrators filled, on Friday, July 2nd, the streets of Liguria, piedmont and Tuscany, the three regions that postponed the general strike of June 25th (see our dispatch No. 100518) until July 2nd. They observed a four-hour work stoppage in the private sector and eight hours in the public sector, metalworking, banking, trade and construction.
