Italy: Confindustria employers’ organization kicks off the procedure for the election of its future President

On Monday, February 13, the Committee of the “Three Wise Men” (Luigi Attanasio, Antonio Bulgheroni and Catervo Cangiotti) officially launched the procedure for the succession of Emma Marcegaglia with the consultation of Milan’s employers.  For 45 days, they will survey all the organizations affiliated with the employers’ confederation to designate the candidates who got at least 15 percent of the votes.  On March 22, based on this result, the Giunta (permanent assembly) will elect the final candidate who will have to present his team and program by April 19 to hold the general assembly closing the whole procedure on May 23.  It is the first time since the year 2000 that there are two candidates.  Their two very different views of Confindustria’s future and of labor relations show the two souls of Italian employers as regards the crisis.
