Portugal: merchandise carriers strike against fuel prices

Trial of strength.  The emergency meeting between the government and carriers which followed the announcement of the blockade didn’t lead to an agreement, since the most important claim on decreasing fuel prices isn’t met.  While diesel fuel costs, in average, 65.14 cents a litter before tax in the EU 27, it costs 76.89 cents in Portugal, second value after Greece.  Government says cutting fuel prices is impossible because of European directives and of the global impact on the Portuguese economy.
