On 26 September the CGTP will be calling for better pay via the launch of a week of mobilization within companies. The Communist leaning central union body wants to start a debate on pay during a time when discussions on the draft 2017 budget are on the horizon. The CGTP is calling for a 4% pay rise and an increase in the minimum wage from €530 currently to €600 per month.

The central union body sees the timing as opportune given that discussions on the draft 2017 budget are on the horizon. In addition the union body notes that new threats over European sanctions should Portugal fail to respect its commitment to bring the public deficit under the 3% of GDP bar are weighing on the country.
