Spain: CCOO union says collective bargaining is dragging on

Stuck negotiations. The union says that 1,726 expired collective agreements still haven’t been renewed and processes are complicated because employers don’t want to include the clause on wage increases maintaining power, which is usually automatically renewed. Unions want a 2% increase, consistent with CPI (consumer price index) increases for 2009. Over half of the existing agreements in force include a wage guarantee clause. However, 13.53% of these agreements (sectoral or company) provide exceptions to its application.
