Spain: the two key unions jointly call for a demonstration on December 12

Warning government and employers. “The general mobilization of December 12 is a warning to avoid worsening social protection” explained Ignacio Fernández Toxo, CCOO general secretary. “We want to give strength to our proposals to move towards a change in the economic system” highlighted Candido Mendez, his counterpart at the UGT. When they presented the mobilization day, the two union leaders spoke to the government and to local governments, asking for a “more ambitious” policy against the crisis, and criticizing the slowness and scattering of administrative measures.” They also request better coordination of efforts. Besides, they pointed out to the need to change the productive system on which the country’s growth has been based so far. They also asked that employers change attitudes, because their only answer to the crisis has been layoffs they say.
