The first European Cooperative society has been established

Just a few weeks before the deadline for the transposition of the directive on workers' involvement in European cooperative societies (ECS), the first ECS was established in Italy on 6 July. (Ref. 06756)

On 6 July 2006, the first ever European social Cooperative Society, Escoop, was formally established before a notary, in Mola di Bari, Italy, between various Italian, Finnish and Spanish organisations involved in social services, the academic world and public administration, having at its centre the Italian social cooperative consortium Elpendu.
