Areva: agreement on equal opportunities, discussion with Marianne Naud

It was easier to negotiate at the European level than sometimes at the French level. But negotiating on equal opportunities is a consensual topic. All the parties wanted to build something together. There indeed was a true joint work upstream of the agreement with the stage of the shared diagnosis which often appears in the agreements themselves. However we had a pragmatic approach by taking time to establish this diagnosis on the basis of jointly built questionnaires, broadcasted by human resources in each country. The analysis of the results was also carried out by management and the members of the European work's council. Once this stage reached, we decided to launch a negotiation. We then wished to work with the secretariat of the European work's council and to lead to an agreement signed by a representative trade-union organization at the European level. We thus contacted the European Metalworkers’ Federation. The trade unions affiliated to the EMF, represented in the Areva group, then gave a negotiation mandate to the deputy secretary-general of the EMF, Bart Samyn (see story n° 061234).
